Why Can't I Quilt Already?

My name is Jessica and I'm a quilting newby. I have always wanted to learn how to quilt but was so intimidated that I postponed it until recently. I took a class that was supposed to be for beginners, yeah right, and hated every second of it. The result of that was a decent looking sampler quilt but it has a lot of blood, sweat and tears woven into the fabric.

I didn't even know how to cut the fabric. I sewed clothes, not little squares of doom. I am still by no means an expert clothes maker, but they seem to make more sense to me than the intricate geometric shapes of different colored fabric all sewn together in a beautiful rainbow of talent that I clearly lack. But, none the less, I am going to trudge on and master this beast of confusion and chronicle my pain for your viewing pleasure. As I learn, hopefully you will as well. Or you can just offer some helpful advice to keep me from losing my sanity. Enjoy the show!
